About Lloyd
I’m Lloyd W. Alexander, the maker, photographer, writer, and collector behind Lloyd’s Collective. Born and raised in Portland, Maine, I’ve spent my life in Southern Maine, finding inspiration in its wildlife, coastline, and natural beauty.
My love for nature is at the heart of my work. From watching wildlife and exploring the Maine coast to studying a mineral or shaping a gemstone, I’m drawn to the beauty and details that are easy to overlook. Lloyd’s Collective brings that curiosity together through handcrafted jewelry, cut gems and cabochons, mineral specimens, photography, books, and trading cards.
Jewelry making and gem cutting
I make jewelry and cut and polish gemstones, including cabochons. Working with a stone’s color, pattern, and character is part of the pleasure: revealing its beauty and creating something someone can wear and treasure.
Mineralogy and published research
My interest in minerals extends beyond collecting. With more than a decade of experience in mineralogy and published mineralogical papers, I explore the details that help us understand the natural world. Mineral photography connects that scientific curiosity with my work behind the camera.
Photography and stories
For more than 35 years, photography has been a way to notice what people often pass by. My award-winning work includes wildlife, nature, fog-wrapped harbors, and astrophotography. My photography has taken me through Maine, New Hampshire, and across New England, and even to Yellowstone National Park, capturing wildlife and the natural beauty of each place. My images have appeared in scientific papers and magazines.
My wildlife books invite readers to come along on the journey. PATHWAYS: Words From My Soul shares poems, songs, and writing as they came from my heart—unedited, mistakes and all. The Bug Light Boys carries that love of storytelling into fiction about friendship, humor, and finding a place to belong.
Collect the moments, wear the memories.
Whether you’re drawn to a gemstone, a photograph, a story, or a collectible, I hope you find something here that means something to you.
